Rack in Italy (English, Dutch or French speaking)
Hi,
my apologies for not speaking any Italian at all. I’m located in Belgium and use the Dutch webhostingtalk.nl forum a lot, so I try this one, looks similar. I’m looking for the best datacenter in Italy to put some racks: 19” rack 32 amps / rack A + B feed with ups & generator Full service internet connection (redundant, routing, …) Remote hands English, Dutch or French speaking Anyone who can help me get to know the Italian market? Thanks a lot, Jst. |

You may also check Redbus, Interroute and Colt Telecom they have datacenters in Italy.

Re: Rack in Italy (English, Dutch or French speaking)
All the others told you the biggest companies in Italy, if you can, it's better if you tell us how many racks you have to implement because most of the times, if they are few, it's better if you buy through a reseller instead of buying directly from the webfarm owner. Of course, this is true if your rack number is not very high.
I think that all the datacenter mentioned are "different" in some ways. Can you tell us more in deep what you need ?

Re: Rack in Italy (English, Dutch or French speaking)
Thank you for the replies, also al lot of private ones.
A reseller is indeed what we need, or a big one with service. For a start, we only need one rack of 2x32 amps, or, if this is not possible, 2 racks of 2x16 amps. For the datacenter we need it to be safe, gas based fire protection, redundant power with ups and generator on both power circuit A and B. Redundant airco, so 2 airco systems with 100% capacity, or n+1 system. For the internet connection we need a redundant connection, so a primary and backup provider, monitored 24/7. Our application is online accounting / invoicing, needing a very low latency, if possible < 15ms. We would like to be able to use ‘remote hands’ and a computer reception service, so we can send a pallet of servers and ask someone to put them in the rack and connect. When expanding we would like to be able to have extra racks in the same room, so we can easily connect directly from one rack to another, without going trough the meet-me room. I found one reseller with a lot of info and prices on the site, Seeweb. Anybody has experience with this company? Thank you for the help! Best regards, Jst. |

They have a very good reputation, which can easily be highlighted by Netcraft's data. They have been, however, experiencing some power problems lately due to faulty UPSs. You can find more info (in Italian) here: Hosting & Housing - Seeweb: innovazione e qualità Ciao |

having 15ms rtt to all the italian cities is nearly impossible... in 15ms you cannot even reach rome from milan with an high quality italian internet connection |

at least, all interleaved adsl connections are far away from 15ms even in the same city of the webfarm ! Of course, if you offer services to big companies that mostly have (S)HDSL or fiber optic connections, around 15ms is possible but i think is difficult to be guaranteed

Re: Rack in Italy (English, Dutch or French speaking)

Because the speed in Italy is acceptable, but not lightning fast, as I would want it to be. I was in Napoli last week and the speed was not as fast as here. We do have a second datacenter in Belgium, we can move this to Italy, serving the Italian customers faster and better. If I compare this to Belgium, here we are connected via benix, the Belgian internet Exchange, and directly to the 2 main providers. If everything has to pass trough the Milan Internet Exchange it seems slower. We have lots of accountants entering invoices at the same time, doing real-time checks with the European vat service, internal checks, calculations, ... As far as I understand the problem is the connection from Milan to Napoli ? thanks a lot for the massive replies! jst. |

Re: Rack in Italy (English, Dutch or French speaking)
most of the connections comes to Milan...
the more you go to the south (generally) the worst is the connectivity (not only @home, but also the main "pipes"...) generally from south of italy to Milan you have an rtt around 30 - 35ms (if you have a good connection)... Speed instead is not a big problem... and most of the time it's just due to a specific ISP / slow offers... |

Re: Rack in Italy (English, Dutch or French speaking)
PS: and yes, international connectivity sucks...
there are just few "residential" ISP that gives decent international peering... Tiscali is one of them... The others (fastweb, libero/wind and so on) do not have a decent international network and they rely on others providers... Their biggest objective is to reduce the expenses... so generally they give you good national connectivity but crap international peerings :P Telecom Italia have it's own internation network too... but it's "overloaded" to often... So if you want to have the best coverage of italian ISPs (and many european ones) you should look for providers directly connected to the MIX and with a lot of high quality upstream providers (not just exchange points ) ![]() i.net might be a good choice ![]() I.Net - HOME maybe for a low number of racks you will not get "impressive" prices... but there are also many other ISP within inet facilities that might be good if you have a little infrastructure ![]() if you want specific tests, trace or whatever just ask: I'm sure many of the ppl in here will be able to help you :P |
