Solo una piccola nota. Google apps nella versione standard (100 account per dominio) non richiede nessun canone separato, senza contare che poi possono essere usate come account google, quindi adsense, analytics, reader, ecc ecc, calendario shared sul domain, jabber con blabla@tuodomain.com. Io personalmente uso Google Apps per la mail, separato dall'hosting. Almeno se va giù l'hosting la mail ce l'ho :) Mi sembra una giusta presa di posizione quella di Dreamhost. Fondamentalmente dicono: loro lo fanno meglio, andate da loro.

Peccato che Google Apps in versione "free" non abbia alcuna SLA e se domani mattina Google decide senza preavviso di eliminare tutto, ti lasciano in braghe di tela. Insomma, Google Apps free per uso professionale? Non scherziamo su... (Diverso il discorso per GA in versione a pagamento ovviamente)

Grazie per i commenti. @spazzacamino: hai ragione, mi scuso per l'errore, ma tieni presente che non hai garanzia di servizio anche in questo caso, per cui il tutto potrebbe andare bene a livello non lavorativo. Penso che anche con Google Apps un'azienda o un'ufficio debba spostarsi obbligatoriamente su account pro. Il consiglio di dreamhost potrebbe essere "utile", ma diviene imbarazzante nel momento in cui la compagnia lo consiglia perchè apparentemente non in grado di gestire e garantire il servizio sui propri server. Concorderai che non è una bella figura con i clienti (al quanto "cafona" la cosa inoltre, per come viene esposta) indipendentemente dalla questione in se....poi ovviamente bisognerebbe valutare singoli casi in cui le email sarebbero spostabili altrove, ma nel caso di una compagnia raramente lo vedo fattibile.

In effetti anche le politiche di privacy di Google sono tutto un dire. Sarebbe interessante una disamina anche in questo caso. Comunque, concordo con quel commento.

Questo fenomeno si accentuerà nei prossimi anni, con la diffusione del cosiddetto Cloud computing, con la diffusione di mega data center in grado di fornire servizi di altissima qualità e sicurezza a costi bassissimi, che renderanno per moltissimi servizi impraticabile la realizzazione di infrastrutture proprie e metteranno fuori mercato piccole e medie aziende fornitrici di servizi IT tramite infrastruttura propria. Quanto a dreamhost se il servizio mail non è il suo core business dovrebbe addirittura essere lui a fornire il servizio Gmail (o simili) sul dominio dei suoi clienti utilizzando Google apps (deve solo configurare un'applicazione chiamata DNS, pochi minuti di lavoro), invitando i propri utenti a registrare il proprio dominio su Google Apps standard. Sugli SLA, io uso la Gmail gratuita e non mi ha dato mai problemi (al contrario di altri). Quindi se Google non da garanzie può essere un problema, ma la cosa essenziale e che dia un servizio di qualità. Google apps premium costa 40 euro ad utente tutti i servizi, e può sostituire già oggi - in buona parte se ben usato e con garanzie, non solo la mail, ma anche Microsoft Outlook, Word, Excel e Power Point, Front Page, Share Point, lo storage, l'hosting dei siti web, e molto altro.
